Stuck In A Philistine City by Dr Daniel E Pann
Step inside this old city and see what the devil desires most. Glance down her narrow, empty streets, peer into her vacant shops and knock on unanswered doors. The steady clatter of sandaled feet bearing market goers along their predetermined routes is missing and hawkish vendors are noticeably absent. One would hasten the question, where are the children and why are smells of cucumbers, fish, garlic, squash and fruit associated with a thriving luncheon clientele only wishful thoughts? Carts and tables that once held cloth, bread, baskets and beans lie empty. No one shops there anymore. There is no laughter, no joy and no hope.Ekron mirrors the other ancient Philistine cities mentioned in Scripture. Her name means "Extermination", which points to the obvious. Satan wants to eliminate every source of happiness offered to believers through Christ. He succeeds by enticing us to visit each one of these towns for no two are the same. There are pitfalls, traps and distractions at every stop. Hazards that will plague the strongest of Christians and once inside, it becomes a fierce battle to escape.
But there is hope in Jesus who encourages us to take an alternate route and avoid these snares. He introduces us to another guide (Himself) who provides safe passage along life's journey.
If Israel had eradicated her foe to begin with, the Philistines would not have been a thorn throughout history. Likewise God gives us the opportunity to rid ourselves of this unholy spiritual influence as well. Are you stuck in a Philistine City? Let Jesus set you free.
